Traffic stops leads to arrest

On September 17, a routine traffic stop conducted by the Searcy County Sheriff's Department on Hwy. 65 near Marshall lead to the arrest of 24 year old Johnathan Michael Hutchings of Warrensburg, Missouri.

According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell, after being stopped by a Searcy County deputy, Hutchings and his female passenger admitted they did not have a driver's license. They both gave the deputy a Missouri ID only card, which he ran through the crime information computer system. The deputy learned Hutchings had a valid warrant for his arrest and his passenger did not have a valid driver's license.

After asking Hutchings and his passenger to step out of the vehicle, the deputy conducted a search of the vehicle and located a bag that contained a crystal like substance and two pills. After testing the substance with a Nar Tec field test kit, the substance tested positive for crystal methamphetamine.

All of these items were located with a few feet of two small children, who were riding in the back seat.

Hutchings was arrested and taken to the Searcy County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of meth or cocaine LT 2 GM; 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a minor; and two misdemeanor traffic violations.
