Jeter charged in death of relative

Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported on September 12, 28 year old Brittany Nicole Jeter of Leslie was arrested by Searcy County Deputy Sgt. Kevin Trammell and charged in the death of her relative, Derinda Baker.

Cassell stated that the arrest occurred following a single car accident that took place on April 1. According to the Arkansas State Police who investigated the accident, Jeter was driving north on Hwy. 65 near Marshall when she attempted to change lanes, over-corrected and lost control of her vehicle and struck the face of the bluff. Derinda Baker, who was a passenger in the back seat died as a result of the accident.

At the accident scene, law enforcement officials detected the odor of alcohol on Jeter's breath. The Arkansas State Crime Lab toxicology/drug report revealed Jeter tested positive for cannabinoids and fentanyl. It also indicated her blood alcohol content was 0.096 at the time of the single car accident.

20th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Carol Crews has charged Jeter with negligent homicide, Class B felony; violation of the Omnibus DWI Act - 1, Class U misdemeanor; and careless and prohibited driving, Class U misdemeanor.

Jeter is currently being held in the Searcy County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
