Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported since his office and the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ADOT) entered into an agreement that allows the sheriff's office to be paid for using Searcy County inmates or community service workers to clear state highways of trash and debris, approximately 284 bags of trash have been picked up by inmates since August.

Cassell said the agreement will be in effect for the remainder of this year and all of 2020. He said the program gives the option to reduce inmate/worker's fines if they participate in the program and allows inmates the opportunity to do something for the community and keep our roadways as clean as possible. Inmates will participate in the program as weather permits.
