Theft leads to arrest

Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported Newton County resident, Shane Middleton, was arrested on Wednesday, December 4 at approximately 10:00 a.m. near Leslie. According to Cassell, Middleton was wanted in connection with a Breaking or Entering and theft that occurred  Tuesday, December 3 at Wade's Convenient Store in Leslie. Cassell stated that Middleton allegedly broke into a pickup truck and stole a rifle, head lamp, cell phone and chainsaw.

On Wednesday, morning Cassell observed Middleton riding a mule on Hwy. 65 S near Leslie and arrested him. Searcy County Chief Deputy Dewayne Pierce conducted a field interview on Middleton. Following the interview, Middleton was taken into custody and transported to the Searcy County Detention Center where he was processed and placed under arrest.

Middleton is currently being held in the Searcy County Detention Center pending a probable cause hearing. At this time, Middleton is currently on active parole and has a lengthy criminal history.
