Information sought in death of animal

According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell, law enforcement officers responded to Leslie on February 13, concerning the death of a missing canine. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they learned the 2 1/2 year old Boxer, named Noki, who had been missing since earlier in the week, was not allowed to roam free. However, earlier in the week, she had gotten out by mistake. After realizing the dog was gone, the owner immediately began a search.

On February 13, the owner spoke to a person who stated shots had been heard early Sunday morning in the area of 5th Street and Cypress Street in Leslie. Following a three day search, Noki was found in a creek near that area. She had been shot and killed.

Sheriff Cassell stated there are two Arkansas laws that govern cruelty to animals - one a misdemeanor offense and the other a felony offense.

Cassell is requesting that anyone with any information concerning this incident to contact his office at (870) 448-2340.
