SCSO drug awareness program

On Sunday, February 16 the Searcy County Sheriff's Office held a drug awareness program at Loafers Glory Church in Morning Star. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the community of the growing drug problem taking over not only Searcy County but the nation.

Searcy County Deputy Lt. Billy Cordell gave a presentation and spoke to residents about various addictions and the signs, symptoms and importance of recognizing them. Cordell stated the sheriff's office is trying to promote change by promoting drug awareness and taking back the streets one addict, dealer, or lab at a time. Lt. Cordell emphasized the responsibility of protecting the community not only falls on the sheriff's office or Marshall Police Department, but on the community itself and that all of these groups must come together to help fix the problem.

Cordell showed those present different types of drugs found in the county including methamphetamine as well as prescription drugs, marijuana, ecstasy, etc. He also emphasized the importance of speaking to children about the dangers and saying no to drugs.

If residents/parents have any questions concerning these issues they are encouraged to contact the Searcy County Sheriff's Office at 870-448-2340. For those who missed the presentation, there will be another held during the summer. Information can also be obtained at www.drugs.com which is a website used by Searcy County deputies to identify unknown medications.
