SC man arrested for threats

Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported on January 30, an Everton man was arrested for assault and threatening his family. Cassell said the caller told 911 that her husband, Richard Poyner, age 49, was intoxicated and had become violent towards the family. She also said Poyner had armed himself with firearms and had pointed them at her daughter. She also said he would shoot officers when they arrived.

Searcy County Deputy Joey Baysinger was dispatched to the scene and on the way learned that Poyner's family had gone to the house next door and that Poyner was still threatening to shoot law enforcement if they showed up.

At the scene, Baysinger met with Newton County officers, who had arrived to assist. Officers were in the process of removing the Poyner family from the house when they met with the neighbor, who stated one of the children came to her home and stated that her parents were fighting and that Poyner had pushed her down and pointed the gun at them.

Baysinger stated since law enforcement did not know Poyner's location inside the residence, they were unable to speak to Poyner at the scene and left the area since Poyner's family was out of harm's way.

On January 31, Poyner turned himself in to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell and was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, Class D felony and terroristic threatening, Class D felony. At the time of this press release, he was being held in the Searcy County Detention Center.
