On Thursday, April 30, Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell and Reserve Deputy David Williams drove to Fort Worth, Texas to return Texas inmate, Alejandro Hernandez, to Searcy County. Hernandez, who refused extradition was returned to Arkansas under a governor's warrant to stand trial on a negligent homicide charge.

  According to Cassell, Hernandez, age 49, of Arlington, Texas was involved in a motorcycle accident on October 25, 2014 on Hwy. 16 approximately 3 miles from Witts Springs. Cassell stated the accident was investigated by Arkansas State Police (ASP) Trooper Joseph Gilliland. According to Gilliland's report, evidence found Hernandez on scene supported that Hernandez was involved in the crash between himself and the Harley Davidson motorcycle he was driving and a Kawasaki motorcycle driven by Michael Lewis.

  Lewis died as a result of the crash. A third motorcyclist, who was driving with Lewis at the time of the accident, provided the ASP with a video of the collision and it supported the evidence found at the scene. The Arkansas State Crime Lab toxicology report showed that Hernandez had Benzodiazepines in his system at the time of the accident.

  On October 22, 2015, 20th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Cody Hiland charged Hernandez with negligent homicide - vehicle, drugged driving while under the influence, careless and prohibited driving and no driver's license (motorcycle). Following the accident, Hernandez left Arkansas and was not located by law enforcement again until September 14, 2019 after the Tarrant County, Texas Sheriff's Department made contact with him. At that time, Hernandez was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from Searcy County, Arkansas. After appearing before a Texas magistrate, Hernandez refused extradition back to Arkansas.

  He is currently being held in the Searcy County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
