Leslie man charged for firing gun

05/11/2020

Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported on March 20 that his office was contacted concerning a man firing a rifle across High Street in Leslie. Cassell learned that man was Russell Wade "Rusty" Galbreath, who is a resident at 800 High Street.

Cassell and Searcy County Chief Deputy Dewayne Pierce went to Galbreath's residence to make contact, but Galbreath refused to come outside. Instead, he invited Cassell, Pierce and Special Agent Dennis Simons to enter his residence.

After entering the residence and explaining the reason for their visit, they noticed Galbreath was consuming alcohol. Galbreath told law enforcement officials he had not been shooting a gun and did not own a gun.

After leaving Galbreath's residence, officials spoke to Galbreath's neighbors and learned that one neighbor had heard gunshots earlier in the day and saw Galbreath removing guns from his house.

On March 23, law enforcement executed a search warrant for Galbreath's property and during the search no long guns were found but a handgun was found inside the residence. Ammunition was also found in the residence.

After further investigation, long guns owned by Galbreath were located. Galbreath had given the guns to an individual so law enforcement could not locate them.

Galbreath has been charged with assault.
