Marshall man arrested on firearm charge

Marshall man arrested on firearm charge

On the morning of November 1, Marshall resident, Levi Cole, age 26, was stopped by Searcy County Deputy Joey Baysinger after he was seen crossing the center line on Hwy. 65 nears Wade's Convenience Store in Leslie.

According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell when Baysinger approached Cole's vehicle to speak with him, he noticed a firearm between Cole and the center console of the truck. Since Cole is a convicted felon, Baysinger knew he should not be in possession of a rifle.

Baysinger ran Cole's information through the crime information computer and learned he had a valid arrest warrant out of Searcy County and was restricted to an ignition interlock device and the vehicle he was driving did not have one.

At that time, Baysinger placed Cole under arrest and returned to conduct a search of the vehicle. During the search, Baysinger located a pen casing that contained a crystal like substance resembling crystal meth and small bags with a crystal like residue inside.

After testing the substances with a Nar Tec Field Kit test, Baysinger learned that both items tested positive for crystal meth.

Cole was transported to the Searcy County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, Class D felony; possession of a firearm by certain persons, Class B felony; ignition interlock devices, Class A misdemeanor; and driving left of center.

He is currently being held in the Searcy County Jail for his warrant and per his Probation Officer with Arkansas Community Corrections.
