Threats lead to arrest in Pindall

12/15/2020

According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell, members of his department responded to a home on Hwy. 65 in Pindall on Sunday, November 29, after his office received a 911 call concerning a home invader who was making threats.

Cassell said the homeowner who made the 911 call told law enforcement officials there was a woman in their home making threats to harm both homeowners. When Searcy County Deputy Lt. Billy Cordell arrived at the home, he found the homeowners standing in the driveway with two other people. It appeared the adults had removed the children from the home and were in the process of placing them in a vehicle for their safety.

The homeowners told Cordell that Barbara Pennington, age 40, was inside the residence in a bedroom she had been living in and had stated she would "harm any police officer that came in the residence." They also stated Pennington had said numerous times that she would kill them. She also stated that she would cut the homeowners throats if they contacted the police.

Cordell said when he entered the residence, he saw Pennington talking on a cell phone and heard her say, "They don't want me here anymore."

Cordell arrested Pennington without incident and placed her in restraints.

While speaking with the homeowners, Cordell learned that Pennington had been living at their home for two and one-half weeks and was a registered sex offender in Poinsett County. Her current records reflect she is a resident of Poinsett County.

Pennington was transported to the Searcy County Detention Center where she was charged with two counts of terroristic threatening, Class D felony and failure to register - failure to comply with reporting requirements, Class C felony. Her bond was set at $10,000 which she posted through an area bonding company. She is scheduled to appear in the Searcy County Circuit Court for an arraignment on December 28 at 9:30 a.m.
