04/06/2021

Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported on the morning of Monday, March 30, human remains were found in the rubble of a house fire in the Welcome Home area of Searcy County.

According to Cassell, members of the Welcome Home Fire Department were dispatched to a structure fire at the home of Jerry Williams off of Primitive Trail Road in the Welcome Home area at approximately 10:00 a.m. When firefighters arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed.

Cassell stated information received by his office suggested a body had been located in the fire. When Searcy County Chief Deputy Dewayne Pierce responded to the scene, he found the residence had been totally destroyed by fire and human remains were found at the scene.

The Searcy County Coroner prepared the remains for transport to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Little Rock to determine the cause of death.

Pierce has submitted approval of a search warrant so the investigation can move forward into the identifying the remains found in the fire.

Pierce was assisted at the scene by the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, Deputy Troy Dye and Deputy Dakotah Springstead. The cause of the fire is also still under investigation.
