Traffic stop leads to arrest

06/22/2021

Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported on June 12 a Texas woman was arrested in Searcy County after the vehicle she was riding in was stopped for committing a traffic violation. Cassell said Searcy County Deputy Troy Dye arrested 40 year old Evelyn Sauceda of Midland, Texas on Hwy. 27 near Harriet.

Cassell said when Dye stopped the vehicle, a male jumped out and began running down the road and into the woods. After Dye requested assistance from Marshall  Police Office Sam Holliman, he noticed Sauceda in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. After asking Sauceda to remain in the car, he saw her get out of the vehicle, go to the back passenger door, open it and throw an object into the woods.

Dye detained Sauceda for safety reasons, after he saw a shotgun laying in the floorboard of the car.   During the investigation, officers located black containers labeled "contained marijuana" that held a green leafy substance, and a drink container that tested positive for PCP, and rolling papers.

Sauceda was transported to the Searcy County Detention Center and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, hindering apprehension or prosecution, tampering with evidence and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
