Altercation leads to arrest

According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell a couple from Crossett was arrested following an altercation that occurred on July 25 on Hwy. 65 near the Buffalo River in Searcy County.

Cassell stated he contacted Searcy County Chief Deputy Dewayne Pierce concerning the incident. Prior to arriving on scene, Pierce learned that the couple, Ronnie Lunsford, age 46, and Carrie Lynn McCormick, age 42, had been in contact with Arkansas State Trooper Nathan Holder and Marshall Police Officer Devin Elliott concerning the incident.

Pierce also learned during the altercation Lunsford and McCormick struck each other and both had been transported to the Searcy County Detention Center where no contact orders were issued.

According to a report issued by Holder, both had received minor injuries from the alleged confrontation which occurred as a result of "slapping" according to the pair.

Additional reports indicate that both Lunsford and McCormick have a lengthy criminal history.

The couple was charged with third degree domestic battery for the purpose of causing injury or harm. They have been scheduled to appear in the Searcy County Circuit Court on October 12.
