Local man pleads guilty to sexual assault

Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported on July 19, 2021, 46 year old Israel Salas, Jr. of Marshall entered a plea of guilty second degree sexual assault in Searcy County Circuit Court. Salas of Canaan Road in Marshall was arrested on February 7, 2019 and charged with rape, class Y felony, and residential burglary, class B felony.

According to the 2019 arrest warrant, Salas was arrested after he gained access to the locked home of a neighbor on January 28 and entered the bedroom where the female victim was changing into her pajamas. Salas allegedly grabbed the woman and began to touch her when she asked him to stop.

The arrest warrant stated that Salas continued to assault the victim and even though she attempted to get away was unsuccessful. His arrest followed the issuance of a warrant issued by Twentieth Judicial Prosecutor Carol Crews. Cassell said that Salas was transported to the Searcy County Detention Center where he was processed and booked.

During the July hearing, the Honorable H.G. Foster sentenced Salas to serve 180 months in the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections and ordered to pay court costs.
