08/30/2021

According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell, 27 year old Marshall resident, Derek Charles Still, has been arrested and is now in custody.

Cassell said Still and the person helping him, Latasha Upton, age 30 of Leslie, were captured on Sunday, August 29, at approximately 7:00 a.m. in the Harriett area. Cassell explained the capture was the result of a joint operation conducted between members of the Searcy County Sheriff's Office, Arkansas Department of Correction North Central K-9 Team, Twentieth Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Marshall Police Department.

Still and Upton were located in an unoccupied residence in the Harriet area. Teams approached the residence just after daylight on Sunday morning capturing both.

Cassell said Still was an absconder from the Arkansas Community Corrections and also has a failure to appear warrant issued from Searcy County. Upton has been arrested for a second time in her role in hindering the apprehension of Still.

Still and Upton are being held in the Searcy County Jail awaiting an appearance in the Searcy County Circuit Court. Other charges are expected for the pair.
