A two-month investigation has resulted in the arrest of a suspect in the murder of Mona Sloop. 

Sheriff Kenny Cassell reports that the Searcy County Sheriff's office Chief Deputy Dewayne Pierce and Investigator Justin Flint, along with Agent Wesley Potts, 20th Judicial District Drug Task Force and Investigators with the Arkansas State Police traveled to DeLand Florida after the course of the investigation led them to their suspect in this case.

Mark R. Brown of DeLand, Florida has been arrested and charged with Capital Murder in the shooting death of Mona Sloop that occurred back in July of 2025. 

Mark Brown was taken into custody on October 1, 2025, at approximately 3:30pm (eastern time). 

Sheriff Kenny Cassell would like to thank all assisting agencies, the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division, Volusia County Sheriff's Office (Florida), the Mountain View Police Department as well as the diligent efforts of his department during this investigation. 

Sheriff Cassell would also like to thank the citizens of Searcy County for their support and patience during this investigation. 

This case is ongoing and is expected to continue with other associated arrests possible. 

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
