A phone scam has been circulating in Searcy County.  According to Sheriff Kenny Cassell, an unknown caller will contact citizens at random, and tell them a warrant for their arrest has been issued or is about to be issued.  The caller demands money in return for not issuing the bogus warrant.

In other instances, the unknown caller will tell you that one of your family members has been arrested, and you will need to send money in order for them to be released from custody.  If this occurs, hang up and contact the law enforcement agency that is alleged to hold your family member.  Do not correspond with these individuals on the phone.

Be assured that Sheriff's Department or any other law enforcement agency WILL NOT call and ask for money.  If you receive a phone call like this, hang up immediately.
