Multiple fires in Searcy County

04/18/2019

Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell reported on Tuesday, April 16, a truck pulling a load of charcoal dust left Oxley at approximately 4:00 p.m. At the time, the driver of the truck was unaware that there were hot spots in the charcoal dust.

As the driver proceeded along Hwy. 65 on the 35 mile route from Leslie to Western Grove, the charcoal dust scattered along the highway creating 35-40 small fires. Cassell said that every fire department in the county was engaged in controlling the fires. He added that most of the fires were small but a few were gaining in strength and may need further attention throughout the night.  At the this time, no structures have been effected by the fires.

Cassell extends his sincere thanks to all personnel involved in controlling these fires and protecting the citizens of Searcy County.
