Swift water rescue at Long Creek

On Thursday morning, May 30, the Searcy County Sheriff’s Department responded to a stranded vehicle at Long Creek in Landis. According to Searcy County Sheriff Kenny Cassell, a Stone County resident was driving through the area when she attempted to cross the slab at Long Creek and was quickly swept up in the creek’s swollen water. Cassell said the driver of the vehicle made it to the roof of her car where she waited patiently for members of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Swift Water Rescue team to retrieve her from the fast flowing water. Cassell wants to remind everyone who encounters this type of situation to turn around and not attempt drive through these types of situations. Cassell would like to thank the members of his department, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Swift Water Rescue team, Marshall Fire Department, Landis Fire Department, North Arkansas Regional Medical Center ambulance personnel for their efforts in this rescue. The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and driven back to her residence in Stone County by Sheriff Cassell.
